Dandenong

The upland natural lookout.

An hour away from the city, Dandenong is somewhat similar to our Cameron Highlands in weather and atmosphere. The drive up the mountain was pleasant and much easier to maneuver as English cottages and houses dotted the quaint township.

From the highest point, you will be able to witness an overall view of the city of Melbourne just like the Peak in Hong Kong.

Many stopped by and breathed in the clean air with pleasure and gladness of heart. You will be awe-struck by the natural beauty of the place.

Even the local garden is known as The English Garden.

I could not resist being photographed with this thick bush of daisies. Aren't they beyond comparison and words? How to describe them? pretty? awesome? dainty? ...everything.

Then I also noticed a different species but nevertheless as bewitching and attractive.

I have never for the life of me seen them hold hands so dearly and for so many times; when you have to take care of them in your travels, your itinerary will have to include parks, lanes and rides that are in tandem with their energy level. So we go for slow and meaningful walks.

Many stalls selling some unique products are found here; but these 'chilli products' are so very Malaysian... I suspect many Malaysians making a life here.

To catch the tourists, some shops offer jewellery...pearls and the opal series.

But my brother told us that many come here to taste the pies... pie in the sky. What's in the pie that is so popular among locals and foreigners?

We were greeted at the entrance with other keen customers.

The pie shop is warm and cozy; a perfect place to hang around and have breakfast, lunch and tea.

We were there for lunch. Mum and dad were very pleased to have the opportunity to be here. It was a pleasure to have them; they gave us little trouble and knew how to accommodate well under all circumstances. Although old, they try to accept the younger generation's ways and kept quiet even under some 'duress' as their ways may differ from ours.

Pies of varied combinations are found here.

Beef curry; so Malaysian.

Tandoori chicken ; even more Malaysian. Who could have introduced this menu but for the Malaysians? I suspect that this could be one of the favorite haunts of Malaysians who have become residents there.

Generous offering; an order but eaten by two...

The pie is delicious and fit for lunch.

One thing I have learnt though; if you do 'take away', the price of the pies is one third of the price when you are served there. So, if I have a chance again, I will pack the pies and have a picnic outside and eat to my heart's content.

The pie in the sky made the Dandenong venture memorable.
