Rudesheim

Lunch

Esther Witt brought; the guide for the day took us to the quaint county town.

Here mama Nani said there were lots of things to buy...but hang on; the best is yet to come.

A quiet town, we were surprised at the low traffic flow; so quiet and Esther explained that it was the low seaon but she admitted that she did not realsie that it could be so quiet too. But the sunny day compensated all that was not to be.

The first signs of tourism greeted us...mugs of the German brand. I remembered getting those when I first went to Munich in 2006. Some gifts are there forever.

We trudged through the local square. The bare trees again reminded us of the seasson of the year. Back home we do not go through such phenomenal changes associated with the climate. We have evergreen landscape because we are in the land of the rain and sun throughout the year. At times I do feel that people in temperate cold lands suffer more as they have to put up with cahllenges not known to the tropical lands.

The children however were excited about everything; quiet or noisy - they are happy as long as they are with good company.

There were pockets of retail ventures but they did not whet our appetites.

At 2pm, the town was unusually deserted; tables were set up but where were the people?

This tudor building is typical of Europe. In Malaysia there are houseowners who choose to also adopt this look and they must be ones who had once resided in such countries; it reflects style and sturdiness.

We walked past a very old winery museum. The apparatus and instrument used for making wine were really ancient. But it was good to observe how the locals first managed the industry.

We were informed too that most local restaurants make their own wine to serve the customers. How interesting.

The museum is a museum piece.

Of course we also witnessed some modern versions of the wine industry... the retailers were all ready to serve and explain...

A typical lane along the quaint town... but where are the people; maybe they will appear later in the day.

The highlight of lunch besides the great food was meeting this French lady; Liza? We loved her attire and most of all her warm and friendly ways. she served us well and got really excited when the children blurted out our great "dikir barat" while waiting for food.

Amidst a typical European set up, we were surprised with a new look in the rest rooms ! It reminded us of the 'Greasy days"! Here Shakir smiled at himself because he could not believe his eyes.

We had a sumptuous meal ; so huge that some of us did not long for dinner. Esther was kind and hospitable.

Like all good things,we had to bade our adios and hope to meet her again... to Heidelberg we went next.
