The Retro Night (2)

50s, 60s. 70s, 80s...

The tired teachers wanted a night they could call their own after slogging their guts out for the year. It's time to let the hair down and be funny for themselves. Yes, be funny girls and boys for the evening. But who's the most retro?

She dug out clothes worn 10 years ago and they still fit her to the skin. Not bad; she sustains herself well. Being the disciplinarian definitely did not compromise on her health for she told me that she has just received a clean bill. So; it's how you respond to stimuli. Lee Lan you can make it as the flower people of the 70s...

On an ordinary school day, she is a plain Jane. But tonight she chose to steal the show. All white from top to bottom, she is a picture of chic and purity. I remember her well. I attended her wedding dinner and saw her conceive. Who would believe that she is a mother of 2 school going children? Soon her son will be a Seafieldian too...Sophia Law though not Loren, she has a costume of the roaring 40s...

Hello Dolly; I mean Aunty Doris. I know you are working towards datinship; I can see it in your red stunning sari and that handbag ... oh you bought it for that sari, didn't you? Perfect picture of poise and style ! That glee is surely gleeful.

Oh yes you said the back is meant to add taste. Maybe the ribbons should be in strips...you will stun the audience and break hearts !

Madam Looi is always looking good too. She swims, walks, runs, jumps and does fierce aerobics; how else can she maintain her good looks? A grandmother she is , do you believe? Kind, unassuming and strong, she has the Shanghainese gait. Last week she made the chinese 'chang' and I confess I took the last one from the rice cooker and ate for lunch. The after taste stayed with me for a long, long while. Make some more...

The Aladdin touch... Puan Zaidah has the mystical air around her. She can be really funny and plays many roles in school. The text book lady; she gets everything in order before the school term begins and ends each year. Will she win the race ?

Ooo... Encik Azlan, a parent . Doesn't he remind you of Robert Redford in The Sting? Imaginative and creative; he is not in the design industry for nothing; I like the attire.

The night saw guts oozing out fearlessly. If is worn, it is meant to be seen. So a real bare back. Who's back is this? Yea the song birds of the 50s would wear this on stage...

Tey Sew Tim reiterated that it was supposed to be worn off the shoulders too ! I blame it on her daughters...dressing up mummy to steal the night ! Good effort.

Wigs, wigs, wigs. Big, round, bushy, long and curly...whatever the shape; they did the trick. En Rahim reminds us of Lat? Who's the lady beside him? Puan Ruhaida...she walked in confidently oblivious of stares; all she cared about was that no one should deny her of that prize ! Don't they qualify for that retro era?

Oh wow... Jafny , the counsellor has turned pinky and has that wig too ! Look at Yazid; another parent. Cowboy in every way, will Yazid win the judges' hearts? Or is it Jafny?

Handsome young man; Tasnim is 'greasy' in look... will he make it?

Oh I love these 2 mothers. They are so sporting and dressed so well for the retro night...They are funny and oozed much gaiety and joy. It's fun to be in their presence.

I thought they make a perfect couple; both so well themed for the evening and on leather jackets...betul, betul boleh tahan. They become your friends so easily; so pleasant to be with.

Puan Chuah is always a picture of calm and her gestures speak of kindness. She is creative and arty; that's where her architecture son inherit his drawing skills. A problem solver; trained in additional mathematics; she will never panic. When you can do add maths, you will never be in a state of stupor...

This is the epitome of complete peace and composure. Both parents say they are in 'The Grease' era and this husband and wife team has just pledged their vows of love again...hand in hand...ave marie...

Who has won your heart?
Who were the best dressed of the evening?
Some of the winners are seen above... make your good guesses.
