An Early One

An Early Christmas Gathering in Melbourne

Funny ; but it's true. You need to make a great effort for a gathering. So the family except for Sara flew in to Melbourne for many celebrations; John's completion of the bar requirements, Jason completing his double degree and Esther; her masters.
So, we gathered for a family get together last Saturday before we flew home.

In Glen Waverly which is the favourite haunt of Malaysians in Melbourne, my brother resides with his wife and boys. The move saw many good sides as the boys learn to be independent without the help of house helps. They see to the chores of the home and help mama run a post office business too; no time for dancing.

John; a master chef in his own way cooked excellent lamb shank stew. It would be difficult to emulate him. He is first a lawyer ; then a commerce man.

Jason so athletic with his craze over body building; is a champion at salads. He is strong and macho. He doesn't only talk to my girls; he carries them on his back ! A lawyer and commerce guy too; he has plans to park in Beijing for Mandarin !

He lifts her up without an effort !

Of course, Esther is into mashed potatoes; she has little culinary skills when compared to her sisters but she paints, decorates and make people happy with her artistic abilities.

So, 3 ex-Seafieldians together with their varied skills; how not to brag?

Of course, the older folks take the brunt more heavily; grilling in the rain. The famous rain in Melbourne lives up to its reputation. Activities revolve round the weather; when good, go out and play; when gloomy stay at home. Though summer, do not be deceived. To me, it's winter.

John's lamb shank was really 'mo tak teng' ! Excellent.

Grilled chicken ; only boleh tahan.

Barbecued prawns was a so- so hit.

Grilled pork ribs meant for the strong teeth.

Mashed potato; so soft and eatable for por por, kong kong and me !

But whatever it is, it was a hit among the hungry.

Helpings after helpings; you forget to stop because of the cold.

Another family gathering to remember by. Not easy to get everyone around. This is but about only a quarter of the family strength.

The best part is when por por went round distributing 'ang pows'... she's mixed up.

A last evening in family warmth before we depart again.

But when we do meet in Melbourne again; this is where we will put up. Good job, brother.

So, as for my immediate family... I have only Esther home. I know Sara is busy cooking for her friends in London and Ms Grace is on call. Nevertheless; may the true meaning of the season be etched in our hearts as we remember the birth of Christ.

Blessed Christmas to friends and loved ones.
