Indonesian Style

Come taste it !
Too bad; only for your eyes and not your buds...

On the way to Jogjakarta, we stopped by at Rumah Makan Sari for lunch at 4pm. We were late for every schedule and ended up 'makan angin' (futility) the first day. We missed every plan, site...you name it. But those did not dampen our spirits.

The locals love food associated with the bean curd family; the above is 'tempei'; a kind of soya bean yogurt cooked with santan (coconut milk).

The dish here is toufu in curry; very good.

These are small toufu pieces cooked with dried chillies and tomato sauce. I did not get to taste it.

This is yet another toufu dish in black sauce...it was a toufu day indeed.

On every table there is this box of fried delicacy. I did not think much of the look but I was sorely wrong. It's fried 'keropok' and it's very, very tasty. We kept telling ourselves that we must get them before we leave for home. Due to time constraint, we failed to do so. It's one of those regrets in life.

We visited a local restaurant named Ramayana. It lived up to its reputation.

Beef 'knuckles' fried in black sauce.

Chicken soup accompanying the main dish...

Fragrant rice presented on banana leaves ; there is a special taste exuded from it.

Yummy, grilled fish complemented by a special sauce... the secret of preparation not revealed.

Do you notice the grey stone pieces? They are known as 'lesong' probably made out of the rich volcanic soil so abundantly found around the surrounding areas. The lesong can be used to pound chilli paste and also as presentation purposes. The cuisine somehow tastes better when presented tastefully.

Local fried rice; not very different from the Malaysian ones.

A sweet coconut concoction; good to the taste buds.

Lontong soup with rice.

The very ordinary fried noodles; nothing spectacular but delicious when you are hungry.

Good food.
