Big and Small

They are all one big happy family.

There is a nook in the house which will calm your nerves after a day's hard work. When all is done for the day you look for your favorite pastime. I like to babble and talk on my blog but the man of the house loves to go to the nook and be lost in his sea world.

This pond was extended and partitioned but of late the partition was taken away to make space for a big creature. In those days the pond was purposely partitioned to keep Mr. Big One on his own.

This is because we were afraid he will be the big bully and tai kor in the pond. Smaller ones will disappear in no time as he can be the predator. However, dad made the decision to remove the partition and in faith believe that the sea creatures will thrive together in harmony.

However Mr. Terrapin given to me by a friend, is quite a challenge to him. Though small in size when compared to the Big One, Mr. Terrapin in his charming ways has made a friend out of the Big One. This hard shell creature is warm, responsive and friendly. If you approach the pond, he will surely draw close to you as if asking for your attention and persuading you to give him some food. When he was smaller, we had dreams that Mr. Big One will swallow him up but could have given up after a few bites on the hard shell!

Daily, the charming terrapin will kick his hind legs left and right and swim happily like a busy body not afraid of anyone. It is fun to see him move without fear in a carefree manner. It is therapeutic. He reminds me of the comfort zone one is in after being in existence for years.

Better still when you watch Mr. Big One ignoring the Terrapin and not even attempting to bully him in any way. They have struck a friendship as if to denote a relationship that develops after thin and thick times. This also depict the relationship we teachers have in the school after a decade or more together. Big or small in size and positions, we strike all sorts of friendships and relationships.

So, it is not an uncommon sight to see Mr. Big One and Mr. Small Terrapin swimming side by side looking for food and companionship. They seem to be happy together. Even the other fishes seem to agree with this form of partnership...let's live happily ever after!

I am most touched each time I see Mr. Terrapin climbing onto the back of Mr. Big One oblivious of fear and intimidation. Mr. Terrapin is comfortable with him and knows that though big in size, his friend will look after him and not harm him. This is what we look for too in life; friends who will protect us in good and bad times not falling into traps of misunderstanding and being misunderstood. Life is to be enjoyed.

You see Mr. Terrapin enjoys the ride on the back; he climbs on top of his back clamoring for food!

Small in size, I grade him the happiest in the pond. He is super cute and handsome.

Big and small, they thrive in harmony, peace and love ... so says the song...what the world needs now is love , sweet love.

Goodnight and sweet dreams; big and small.
