The Ministry of Education gave us the privilege of hosting Korean educationists last Thursday. This is one of the rare times we receive principals and heads of schools. They were here to see for themselves what a mainstream school in Malaysia was like. In our humble disposition we received them with open arms hoping to deliver what we could in our best capacity.
Yes the entourage of 35 delegates reached the gate of the school at 10 am sharp as promised.
They had a most attractive interpreter in the person of Jamie. The Koreans did not seem to be able to speak in English. Jamie briefly told them the itinerary of the day and hoped to interpret her best.
The head of the delegation is associated with the University of Korea.
The history and achievements of the school were delivered in a simple presentation.
During the Q & A what attracted their attention most was the academic performance of the school and they were especially interested in what happens to student who do not make the grade for tertiary education. They were curious at the low enrollment of STPM students and when they were informed of the varied forms of pre university studies, they finally understood. They now know that STPM is the hardest gateway to tertiary education; thus the unpopularity.
Next, they were given a tour of the school; this is our latest and proudest addition; the History Gallery.
They loved our new rest rooms. They never imagine a school can have a toilet of this nature; a building inspired by the PTA.
They also loved our herbal garden as some local herbs and plants were introduced to them; plants for diabetes, high blood pressure, sore throat and the list is unending.
They saw the children's work in our art studio and were impressed at their creativity.
Of course the library manned by the librarians impressed them tremendously. They were impressed at the versatility of the librarians.
Look at him; he was so impatient that he should try anything on. He did not know that that was lady's skirt !
The best part of it was he did not know it was not meant for a gentleman.
Later we got another principal to wear the skirt with the appropriate top; so lovely ; isn't it? The lady in orange was so taken by the Indian attire. They are so beautiful.
Puan Zunaidah was especially popular among the male delegates; she looks like an actress, so beautiful.
See, they enjoyed this part of the visit most; trying on traditional clothes of Malaysia. Jamie reiterated that they enjoyed every moment of it.
In most visits, we love this exchange best. They gave us Korean gifts which represent their country best... Korean art and masks.
Of course, we gave our locally produces batik painting; done by the students. They were delighted at it.
Soon but surely, we had to bid our farewells. We hoped they have learnt some things from us; at least they must be impressed by out multicultural ethnicity. Teachers and students of all races studying and working together; Malaysia the land of variety.
Before bidding their final goodbye, this vice principal of a local school in Korea asked if we could be 'sister schools'... the answer is Yes. We will be getting in touch with him.
Another memorable visit; the Korean entourage; our privilege to host them.
Team Library for the win! :)
