Leisure

Leisure

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.

No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.

No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.

No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.

A poor life this is if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

William Henry Davies

In class I asked the children if they were given the time for leisure; what would they do ?
SLEEP ; they told me.

I believe it is true of many today.
Many lack sleep.
I do not know why school children to youths and young working adults are so busy doing things that demand their souls.
Perhaps it is good to be slower in life to savour in the beauty of friendship, loved ones and enjoy the simple pleasure of just doing nothing in one another's company.
Time and tide waits for no man for in a while we will be in our 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s,70s...
I like the poet's reminder:
A poor life this is if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

And aren't we all glad that Nayati is back with the family?
